Classic Songs Sunday: Dil Ke Armaan (1982) and Saat Samundar Paar (1992)

Welcome to the Classics section. Every week, we revisit two Hindi songs… one from the Pre-90s era and one from the Post-90s.

Today, we look at the deep heartbreak of Dil Ke Armaan Aansuon Mein and the catchy dance beats of the Saat Samundar Paar song. These two tracks take us from the sad reality of a broken heart in the early 80s to the high-energy wedding vibes of the early 90s. While one makes you cry, the other automatically makes you want to dance.

Dil Ke Armaan Aansuon Mein – Nikaah (1982)

Singer: Salma Agha
Music Director: Ravi
Lyricist: Hasan Kamaal

The Hard Truths of Life

One of those songs that is too sad and you should avoid listening when in a good mood. Salma Agha’s unique voice and the deeply heartbroken feeling Hasan Kamaal’s lyrics bring out makes this classic song almost a top pick for anyone who makes a playlist of sad songs.

shayad unka aankhiri ho yeh sitam,
har sitam yeh sochkar hum seh gaye…

Saat Samundar Paar – Vishwatma (1992)

Singer: Sadhana Sargam
Music Director: Viju Shah
Lyricist: Anand Bakshi

The Iconic Dance Anthem
There would rarely be any North Indian wedding function where the Saat Samundar Paar song isn’t played. The very catchy starting tune followed by the vocals of Sadhana Sargam does full justice to this great dance number that very much sidelines the average lyrics.

Also, it has lovely choreography minus the unnecessary cutaway closeup shots of background dancers. It is a track that automatically comes to mind while remembering the late Divya Bharti.

na rasta maloom na tera naam pata maloom,
kaise mere pyar ne tujhko dhoondha kya maloom..
